How does the Digital Smile Design process work in Redwood City?

A dental professional holding a model tooth and jaw, assisting a patient during a consultation.

Initial Consultation

During your initial consultation, we will take photos and a video as you are talking so we can determine your smile line and upper lip placement. Then we will use the Digital Smile Design software to begin designing each new tooth with the correct proportions. To help pinpoint your ideal smile, you can choose photos of people whose teeth you like.

Photo Consultation

We will educate you on the types of teeth the people in your photos have. This gives us insight into the vision you have for your new smile, and the photo(s) you finalize together will aid in the designing of your new smile.

Adjustment

We will utilize the Digital Smile Design software to begin adjusting the design and predicting your future smile. As part of this process, you will be able to view your digital smile and tweak it together until you are satisfied with the look.

Mockup

Based on the final digital design, we will create a wax-up of your new smile in-house. From there, we will create an acrylic mock-up, so you can visualize and physically test out your beautiful new smile, before any treatment begins.

Finalization

Once all modifications have been made and you are satisfied with your new smile, we will finalize the design. By this time, we will have a clear definition of the smile you want and you will know exactly what to expect and be aware of any limitations.

Can I Test Drive My Smile?

+

Yes, you will be able to physically try on your newly designed teeth before we fabricate the official restorations. The process begins with analyzing any problems you have with your smile. Then, you will select photos of people whose smiles you like.

Then, we will combine your input and the photos you have chosen and use our sophisticated digital software program custom-tailor your new smile. We will adjust your teeth by correcting any misalignment, chips, discoloration, and other aesthetic issues you want to address.

Once you are satisfied with the end design of your digital smile, we will create a wax mock-up of these teeth in the office and then we will make one out of acrylic that you can physically try on. You will be able to tell us if you’re happy with the fit and appearance of your teeth or if you want any adjustments.

We will continue to make adjustments to your tooth restorations until you are 100% satisfied. Then, we will finalize the design and begin fabricating the official restorations.

What Is a Natural Restoration?

+

A natural restoration is a process of restoring a damaged or decayed tooth as close as possible to its natural form and function through dental intervention. We can do this through various cosmetic and restorative treatments.

We can whiten the teeth, cover up chips and cracks, repair eroded or damaged enamel, replace missing teeth, close gaps, and correct misalignment. All of these factors will improve the aesthetics of your smile but they will also replace missing tooth structures and enhance tooth functionality which will improve your quality of life.

Procedures that can be used in a natural restoration include composite fillings, veneers, dental bonding, tooth-colored crowns, teeth whitening, dental implants, dental bridges, and dentures.

How Will I Know My Digital Smile Design Will Suit My Face Perfectly?

+

A digital smile design is the most advanced and non-invasive way to design a smile makeover for a patient using precise digital mapping of your natural bite.

This is done by using impressions and digital scans of your teeth which are uploaded to our software to create a highly accurate 3D model of your teeth. This shows us exactly how your teeth fit together and are aligned, as well as any visual or structural problems like damaged teeth.

After consulting with you about your personal preferences and using the photos of smiles you selected for inspiration, we will be able to digitally adjust your teeth on this software with precision to achieve the exact aesthetic that you want.

We can enlarge the teeth, make them longer, round out sharp teeth, cover up erosion, fill in chips and cracks, close gaps, and straighten the teeth. As experienced dental experts, we will be here to help you every step of the way.

While your smile design is ultimately your choice, we will provide helpful feedback and advice on how to create a tooth design that will complement your facial features. Contact us at Ghina Morad, DMD today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Morad.
